DEATH: Wife is widow in 1920 Census and last child born in 1917. Family info.
April 08, 2006. Visit to Clayton Cemetery Aucilla, Jefferson Co., Florida included Jefferson County Property Appraiser, David Ward, Gene and Nancy Slade (descendants of Anguish Butler Clayton), and 95 year old James Edward Clayton (aka Ed) who is the son of Burton Clayton. Ed recalls his father was ill and died of pneumonia on a Friday and they buried him the following Saturday afternoon in Clayton Cemetery in an unmarked grave. The neighbors made a make-shift coffin and carried his body up the hill by mule and wagon to the cemetery. Ed states his father died on a Friday January 16, 1916 and he was buried the following Saturday afternoon. Date calculations of Jan. 16th do not correspond to a Friday. Burton's death date January 14, 1916 was confirmed by Phillip Michael Clayton (aka Mike) who is the son of Ed Clayton. Mike states that Ed's wife Minnie kept family records. Ed states that his 6 year old brother Parkhill Clayton died of pneumonia (date unknown) and is also buried in an unmarked grave in Clayton Cemetery near his father's (Burton) grave. Ed states the land surrounding the one acre mortuary and the surrounding acres was once farmland owned by Cappen Butler Clayton, aka Cap Clayton. Ed recalls Cap and his daughter Docie.
According to Ed Clayton, in addition to the five marked graves and the two unmarked graves of his father and brother, there are other Clayton family members buried at Clayton Cemetery. Ed was unable to recall the other unknown souls who are buried there but was insistent that more than seven Claytons are at this burial site.

NOTE:
Early land records show John H Brickle purchased 80 acres in one transaction and then 40 more in each of two more.
The early census records before the Civil War show the family surname as Brickle. Then mysteriously after the Civil War the whole family's surname is Brittle. This is a mystery. The only Brickles in the area of Jefferson County FL after the Civil War are the blacks and mulattos. The whites appear to have changed their last name to Brittle. It definitely is the same family!
Info from pension records that she filed after husband death in 1897.
She must have had three more children along the way, since in the 1910 census it says she has had 10 children, 5 of whom are alive at that time (they must have been Aubrey, Scotia, Shelly, Capp Butler, and Orlando John). She is buried in the Clayton family cemetary in Aucilla, Jefferson County, FL. Her gravestone reads "Victoria A. Clayton, November 28, 1843; September 17, 1912".
Her name is spelled "Brickel" in the LDS databank.
Later in life when she filed for pension from the goverment for the death of her husband who had served in the Civil War she signed her name as "Brittle".

Daniel Flinn/Flynn married Sarah E.( Surname Unknown)
On Monday afternoon, last, fifteen of Capt. Rowell men on a scout near the Sandy Ford in Jefferson County, [Florida} discovered the trail of Indians on the plantation of Mr. Patterson . On pursuing a short distance, two Indians were discovered setting on a fence; a dash was made by the scout under Lieut. Wynn, when on nearing the fence, they were fired on by a large party of Indians concealed behind it. Two men were killed and two wounded; one supposed mortally. The volunteers returned the fire a short time and retreated. The Indians also made a hasty retreat, leaving one of their party dead on the field. Early next morning, Captain NewsomÙus Company, a Company of Dragoons and regulars, and volunteers from Monticello to the number in all of about two hundred men, went in pursuit. The trail was very large and was pursued to the Augustine road, where the party scattered, and again united a short distance south of the road, where the trail was again taken by our forces. The course of the Indians was towards the large swamps and hammocks on the Ironfeence. The party was estimated to number from 70 - 80. The individuals killed. were George Donaldson, and Daniel Flinn, an old resident in the neighborhood. - Joshua Gray, and W. Anderson, wounded, the later supposed mortally.
