A Thomas Clayton and Ellen Griffin married in Jefferson County FL 28 May 1878, but I think they were black because in the 1880 Census there is a black couple of those names, but that couple were age 60 and 50.

A Brenda Chapman of Plant City, FL and also Don Clayton of Plant City, FL submitted to Pedigree Resource Files CD # 1 and entry forms of the LDS Church info that indicates that Samuel's parents were William J Clayton and Sarah Amelia Flynn.While this could be possible why would the rest of the family have no knowledge of this? Also, why would William J and Sarah A Clayton abandon them when they had a family in Leon County in 1870? Why would they name another child Thomas born in the latter half of 1860's? I believe their info is in serious error. This needs further investigating. It is possible. William J and Sarah have not been found in the 1860 Census. There is a Thomas age 2 with Samuel in the Hancock home in 1860. This would not be my Thomas Clayton since the one I am descendant from was definitely the child of William J and Sarah, but in the 1870 Census it indicates he was born after 1860. I do not know where this Samuel or Thomas came from.

DEATH: Death certificate list parents and birth place as unknown. The informant was J.B. Wynn, husband of Samuel's daughter Maggie Caroline Clayton. If they did not know where he came from then he obviously did not know either. How can he be a part of William J and and Sarah Amelia Clayton's family and this family not know? This confirms to me that if there is a relationship it is completely unknown what at this time, but Samuel definitely is not a child of William J and Sarah A Clayton!

According to Brenda Chapman Benjamin remarried another in 1908. I think that the Benjamin Emery Clayton that Brenda Chapman and Don Clayton indicate in their records and this Benjamin are two different people because the 1910 Census indicates that Eliza was a widow.
