“Corky” - Dr. Frazier Cloran Jones
Dr. Frazier Cloran Jones - Gainesville, died Monday, June 28, 2010. Frazier, aka "Corky," was married to Ellza Cottingham Jones for 52 years. He was a fourth generation Floridian, born in Ocala, Fla., the son of the late Ireland Charles and Ruby Mae Clayton Jones. Frazier was a graduate of Ocala High School, Class of 1946, University of Florida, Stetson University and Nova University.
Before his retirement, which he enjoyed to the fullest, Frazier was part of the early management teams with the space industry at Cape Canaveral, Fla. After earning his doctorate at Nova University, Frazier taught Business Administration at Brevard Community College, NOVA University and the University of Florida satellite schools (Fla.), Montreat College (N.C.) and Brenau University in Gainesville. Frazier served in the Armored Division of the U.S. Army and retired as a full Colonel. Frazier was a passionate Florida GATOR. He was instrumental in establishing The Great Gainesville Georgia GATOR Group in The Swamp of the North. In addition to his wife, Ellza, he is survived by four children, Stephen (Laurie), Cary, Laura (Tim) and Kenneth (Lisa). Frazier was affectionately known as 'Doc' to seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. There will be a gathering of friends and family on Thursday, July 1 at 4 at the Elk's Club, 1547 Riverside Drive, Gainesville; casual attire. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Way of Hall County, P.O. Box 2656, Gainesville, or the Elks Aidmore Children's Center, 2394 Morrison Road, Conyers, GA 30094, or a charity of your choice.
