* There was another James Clayton very similar with some differences. I think that the one above is the correct one but .... ? I feel the one above is correct because he was surrounded by siblings and their families. With this assumption then one must be careful when going to the 1860 Census since there is a J.J. Clayton in Cowpen, Barnwell, SC that others researching have assumed is the correct family and thus add children. This might be an incorrect assumption and the 1860 J.J. Clayton might be the wrong Clayton.*
