He married Elvira Kinsey in Colleton County, South Carolina, 1816/1817. Elvira was born in New Bern, North Carolina July 1, 1798. She was the daughter of John (Jack) Kinsey. Elvira died 1878 in Colleton County, South Carolina. Her body was interred 1878 in Colleton County, South Carolina, Garris Family Cemetery. It is said that a family Kinseys came to South Carolina the "year the stars fell". They settled in Colleton County on Hog Branch, near the Little Salkehatchie River, near Williams S. C. Griffin Served in the North Carolina Militia from Lenoir County during the War of 1812 with England. It is said that Griffin Garris came to South Carolina "in search of achildhood sweetheart and cousin" whom he found and married about 1816 and their first child was born in 1817. Land deeds and papers of Griffin and Elvira Garris and Elvira's father John Kinsey are in the possession of a great-great-grandson, Daniel William Garris who is still living on the original Garris-Kinsey property in Colleton County, South Carolina.
