Griffin6 Garris (John5, Benjamin4, Amos3, Amos2, Amos1) was born in North Carolina 1785. Griffin died 1836 in Colleton County, South Carolina. Griffin Garris Sr. died in his 40s of pneumonia. His body was interred 1836 in Colleton County, South Carolina, Garris Family Cemetery.

He married Elvira Kinsey in Colleton County, South Carolina, 1816/1817. Elvira was born in New Bern, North Carolina July 1, 1798. She was the daughter of John (Jack) Kinsey. Elvira died 1878 in Colleton County, South Carolina. Her body was interred 1878 in Colleton County, South Carolina, Garris Family Cemetery. It is said that a family Kinseys came to South Carolina the "year the stars fell". They settled in Colleton County on Hog Branch, near the Little Salkehatchie River, near Williams S. C. Griffin Served in the North Carolina Militia from Lenoir County during the War of 1812 with England. It is said that Griffin Garris came to South Carolina "in search of a childhood sweetheart and cousin" whom he found and married about 1816 and their first child was born in 1817. Land deeds and papers of Griffin and Elvira Garris and Elvira's father John Kinsey are in the possession of a great-great-grandson, Daniel William Garris who is still living on the original Garris-Kinsey property in Colleton County, South Carolina.

Griffin Garris and Elvira Kinsey had the following children:

* 40 i. Elizabeth (Betsy)7 Garris was born in Colleton County, South Carolina 1817. Elizabeth died February 15, 1879 in Colleton County, South Carolina. Her body was interred February 1879 in Colleton County, South Carolina, Carters Ford Baptist Church. She married twice. She married James Wilson Miley. She married James Padgett.

* 41 ii. John Garris was born in Colleton County, South Carolina August 10, 1819. John died December 15, 1863 in Hospital in Cassville, Georgia, at 44 years of age. He married twice. He married Manella Lyons. Manella was born 1833. He married Nancy Smith. John was died as a result of wounds received in the Civil War. He was a Private in Company "E" 24th S. C. Infantry. He was a member of Carter's Ford Church

* 43 iv. Griffin Garris Jr. was born in Colleton County, South Carolina November 20, 1823. Griffin died 1866-1867 in Charleston County, South Carolina.
