Accd. to an obit in the Charlotte Observer 28 Feb 1977, he joined the Navy in
1917 and served in the later part of WWI. The 1920 census shows him as a clerk
in an automobile shop. He then studied engineering
at the State College (now, Tristate University) in Angola, IN, where he met and
married his wife. He returned to returned to Charlotte and was in the
construction business for a number of yrs. In 1945, he formed the C.W. Gallant
Construction Co., specializing in building water and waste treatment plants. He
was the firm's president and treasurer for 31 yrs. He was a Mason, a Shriner
and a Baptist.

He worked for the Post Office for 30 yrs., then retired and took a job with the
Mecklenberg Co. Sheriff's Dept., and then with the Charlotte Redevelopment
Commission. He spent his last yr. in a nursing home. His obit says he had a
son, Jack of Charlotte, and a dau., Mrs. Betty G. Lyerly of N. Myrtle Beach,
SC. He had five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Sue Ellen Whitaker
says he m. Margaret Gladys Birmingham sometime aft. 1920. In that yr. he was 19
and still living at home, accd. to the census.
